The GO Sustainable Development Trust was established in response to the Government’s Project 2040 seminar ‘Empowering Communities in the fight against Climate Change’. After successfully securing funding, TOBIN were appointed to undertake a feasibility study, that will explore the Potential of Offaly’s Peatlands to achieve UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Status.
Offaly is at the front line of the Climate Transition due to their 21% peatland land bank and vast agricultural heritage on carbon-rich soils. This study will define the ecological, climate mitigation, economic, community and cultural benefits, while identifying the opportunities to make a significant contribution to the health of the planet.
