Oweninny Wind Farm

TOBIN was appointed to carry out EIAR and planning consultancy services for the Oweninny Wind Farm in Co. Mayo on behalf of Bord na Móna Powergen.  The development is classed as Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) and TOBIN initially engaged with An Bord Pleanála to confirm the SID status. TOBIN managed the iterative design development process in partnership with Bord na Móna Powergen and our various internal and external contributors, such that a final design was arrived at that comprised 18 no. wind turbines with an overall blade tip height of 200m, a rotor diameter of 158m, and a hub height of 121m. The development also includes the decommissioning and removal of 21 existing Bellacorick wind turbines.

Other elements of the proposed development include approximately 29,000m of internal site access roads (permanent and temporary), an amenity route through the site to the existing Visitors Centre with access from a local road off the N59, 2 no. borrow pits, 5 no. peat deposition areas, 4 no. temporary construction compounds, and a 110kV electrical substation compound.
