TOBIN is proud to complete the delivery of a significant upgrade to the Stamullen Wastewater Infrastructure in Co. Meath on behalf of Uisce Éireann Irish Water, through our Framework partnership TOBIN McAdam WSP (TMW). TOBIN brought the upgrade project through concept design stage, preparation of tender contract documents, review and appointment of contractor and delivery of the project as Employers Representative (ER).
The Stamullen Wastewater Upgrade project involved transferring wastewater from the growing Stamullen agglomeration to the Balbriggan-Skerries WwTP, ensuring compliance with the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and supporting future development in the area. TOBIN provided engineering and advisory services, including hydrogeological support to secure a new washwater source, a Waste Assimilative Capacity Assessment of the River Delvin, and concept civil design for the upgraded pumping station and rising main.
Key project elements included:
• Decommissioning the existing Stamullen WwTP and converting it to a pumping station while maintaining treatment until commissioning was complete.
• Installing 5.7km of twin rising mains and 715m of gravity sewer, including a twin pipe M1 motorway crossing and HDD crossing of the Delvin River.
The upgrade delivered new inlet works, pumping and stormwater systems, washwater storage, control building, biodiversity enhancements and associated infrastructure. Construction was completed by David Walsh Civil Engineering, with handover to Uisce Éireann in July 2025.
Working alongside Uisce Éireann and David Walsh Civil Engineering, TOBIN is proud to have supported a project that increases wastewater capacity for Stamullen and enhances water quality in the River Delvin – enabling sustainable growth for the community in the years ahead.
