TOBIN Consulting Engineers was appointed as Fire Safety Consultant on the Development of Disability Houses at Churchview, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary for the Health Services Executive. TOBIN prepared the Fire Safety Report and Fire Safety Drawings for this project and undertook a number of inspections during construction to ensure all works were completed in accordance with Code of Practice for Fire Safety in New and Existing Community Dwelling Houses along Building Regulations 2017 TGD-B Fire Safety and the building control Act.
One of the main issues on this site was that the potential occupants have intellectual and/or physical disabilities which may affect their mobility and therefore affect their ability to egress in the case of an emergency. Having assessed this difficulty, TOBIN understood that a balance was required between passive protection measures and the general day to day use of the building. Fire safety measures were proposed without compromising the safety of the staff or occupants of the buildings. TOBIN liaised with the Local Fire Officer on project specific issues for the successful delivery of the Fire Safety Services on the projects.
