National University of Ireland Galway appointed TOBIN to carry out a condition survey of their existing sports facilities at Dangan Sports Ground in Galway. Following this survey, Tobin proposed a preliminary report providing recommendations and necessary
improvement and upgrade works to accommodate current and future usage for both the college and external users. This involved the preparation of a masterplan for the entire sports grounds.

Based on the recommendations contained in the report the existing athletics track and field facility has already been refurbished and upgraded, improvement works have been carried out to one of the grass soccer pitches, two tennis courts were converted to 5-a-side all weather pitches and a new sand topped natural grass soccer pitch has been constructed. In our role as Lead Consultant for the various elements of these works, TOBIN acted as the point of contact for our client in liaising with the various members of the design and construction teams.

As part of an earlier phase on works on the same site, TOBIN were also responsible for the design of the refurbishment works of the existing IAAF certified running track. This included the replacement of the existing surface and replacement with a new “Sandwich” type surface finish complete with all required line marking, drainage etc to meet with IAAF standards.
