TOBIN Consulting Engineers acted as Lead Consultant for IT Carlow on the delivery of the new 31-acre South Sports Campus Development.
Phase 1 of this world-class outdoor training facility consisted of the delivery of six full-size playing pitches, comprising one all-weather synthetic GAA pitch, one grass GAA pitch, two grass soccer pitches and two grass rugby pitches; along with a 1.6km looped walking trail. The sports pitches and walking trail are illuminated using a high efficiency, new generation LED floodlighting system. The works also included the installation of ducting, floodlight column base installation, pitch drainage and irrigation (including well installation) and the design of a stormwater system to control groundwater.
Phase 2 was completed in 2021, comprises a 400m athletics track, a pavilion building including team changing rooms, welfare facilities, meeting rooms and storage areas.
