As part of a continued commitment to both sustain and promote this vital local employment hub, Shannon Heritage set out to complete a major upgrade of the facilities. TOBIN was appointed to oversee this exciting project. The main work elements included a new retail area covering the previous courtyard between the original retail space and admissions building.

This extended retail space and the full refurbishment of the existing retail space now accommodates the growing visitor numbers. The new cafe, an extended entrance, and the refurbishment of the admissions building for visitors all contribute to a modern and market-leading facility for tourists and locals alike.

One of the defining principles under which Shannon Heritage operates is to achieve a balance between its custodial role and the need to operate in a commercial environment. Considering this, the team at TOBIN had certain sensitivities to take into consideration during the design and construction phases of the works.
