Senior Engineer / Team Lead (Design Build) – Water & Utilities

Overview:

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of major infrastructure projects, TOBIN, An AtkinsRéalis Company, is seeking a Senior Engineer / Team Lead to join our expanding Water & Utilities Division in Galway.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to take a leading role in the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects while helping to develop and grow a high-performing engineering team.

About the Role:

As a Senior Engineer / Team Lead, you will play a key role in the technical leadership, design management, and successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of water and utility projects.

Working closely with Project Managers, clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams, you will lead the design and delivery of projects across water and wastewater treatment, network infrastructure, drainage systems, and design-build schemes. You will also mentor and support junior team members, helping to drive technical excellence and project success across the division.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Engineer / Team Lead, you will:

  • Lead the design and delivery of water, wastewater, drainage, and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Act as a technical lead on Design-Build and traditional contract projects.
  • Manage project resources, programme delivery, and technical outputs to ensure high-quality project execution.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and support Project Managers in delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Liaise directly with clients, Uisce Éireann, local authorities, contractors, and key project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Graduate and Project Engineers.
  • Support business development activities, client relationship management, and project bids where required.
  • Undertake site visits, design reviews, construction support, and project inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with company QA/QC procedures, Health & Safety requirements, BCAR obligations, and relevant industry standards.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the Water & Utilities team.

Skills & Experience Required:

Education:

  • Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or actively progressing towards chartership with Engineers Ireland.

Experience:

  • Typically 8+ years’ experience within the water, wastewater, utilities, or civil infrastructure sector.
  • Strong experience delivering Design-Build projects.
  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing technical project delivery.
  • Experience working with Uisce Éireann and local authority standards and approvals processes.
  • Background in one or more of the following:
  • Water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Water network modelling
  • Drainage and stormwater management
  • Utility infrastructure projects
  • Design-Build project delivery

Technical Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Experience with water and drainage design software, GIS platforms, and hydraulic modelling tools.
  • Sound understanding of Irish design standards, Eurocodes, Building Regulations, and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of BIM processes and digital engineering practices would be advantageous.
