TOBIN Consulting Engineers provided the Civil and Structural Engineering Services and PSDP for this project. This was a major housing /apartment development on 4.5 ha in Galway, consisting of apartment blocks, terrace and semi-detached housing, as well as a crèche.
The development was designed to comply with the Site Development works for Housing Areas. Natural ventilation, LED lighting low, embodied energy materials and a high level of insulation were used in the buildings, thus achieving a high BER rating.
The design took into consideration energy efficient design, life cycle costs and the specifying of green material throughout. Rainwater harvesting was used in the design process.
Site cut was used and fill thus reducing the need for import and export of bulk materials. Sustainability was a key component in the design of the project including the use of GGBS cement.
