Dr. Seán Carroll is a structural engineer, chartered with Engineers Ireland (2014). He has 19 years of postgraduate experience in both industry and academic roles throughout Ireland and the UK.
Seán graduated with a first class honours degree in structural engineering from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2006. He also holds a master’s degree in civil engineering (2009) and a PhD in civil engineering structural dynamics (2013).
Formally a senior lecturer in structural engineering and Director of Education (Engineering) at the University of Exeter, Seán returned to settle in the West of Ireland in 2023.
He rejoined TOBIN in January 2026, having previously worked with TOBIN between 2007 and 2009 before commencing work on his PhD at the University of Nottingham. His experience includes structural analysis and design. His expertise lies primarily in non-linear behaviour of structures, finite element analysis, computational methods and structural dynamics.
Outside of work, Seán is a keen sea kayaker and ‘camper vanner’. He enjoys travelling around Ireland camping and kayaking with his wife.
