TOBIN, a large multi-disciplinary (engineering, environmental, planning) consultancy practice operating in Ireland since 1952, is currently looking to recruit an ambitious and self-driven Project (Civil) Engineer to join our busy and growing team in our  Dublin OR Limerick Office.

The position of Project (Civil) Engineer within TOBIN requires a minimum Level 8 Honours Degree (a Masters Degree may be required to achieve Chartered Status) qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent qualification appropriate to the tasks assigned) and have achieved Chartered Membership of Engineers Ireland. In general, the title may apply to staff that have between 4 and 10 years’ experience depending on the knowledge and skills gained over the course of their career to date.

The ideal candidate will bring proven experience delivering civil projects across a diverse range of sectors, including residential, healthcare, education, and sports infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
As a member of a team within a TOBIN department and through mentoring with senior members of staff within TOBIN, the Project (Civil) Engineer will be required to undertake the
following duties:

  • Where directed by the Project Manager, liaise and meet with Clients to ensure
    delivery of the appropriate reports, designs and associated outputs.
  • Review documents and designs prepared by Graduate, Design and other Project Engineers.
  • Preparation and review of preliminary designs and reports using a variety of
    computer packages and subsequent preparation of detailed design drawings and specifications.
  • Complete designs and drawings for site development work
  • Complete surface water drainage designs for developments in accordance with SuDS, this should include determining greenfield runoff rate and sizing soakaways and attenuation tanks
  • Designing of foul sewer and watermain networks for developments in accordance with the Irish Water Codes of Practice
  • Liaison with Irish Water through the pre-connection enquiry, connection application and diversions processes
  • Coordinate the technical delivery on projects including liaison with relevant project staff to ensure the timely delivery of design deliverables within specified timeframes
  • Property inspections and preparation of detailed engineering reports
  • Preparing Designers Assessments of Risk for all designs
  • Preparing preliminary inspection plans and undertaking BCAR inspections
  • Procurement of Site Investigation and Building and Civil Engineering Contracts and where appropriate the preparation of pricing schedules and Bills of Quantities
  • Assisting our Project Managers in the preparation of tender documents and tender assessments.
  • Administration of the construction contracts to ensure that design requirements, project schedules and project budget are achieved.
  • Liaison with local authority in scoping the feasibility of new projects in terms of drainage, traffic, flooding etc.
  •  Take instruction from their Line Manager (and where appropriate the relevant Project Manager and senior members of the project teams).

 

The Skills Required of a Project (Civil) Engineer:

  • Excellent written and verbal (English) communication and interpersonal communication skills.
  •  Competent in the procedures associated with statutory applications such as planning permission, fire safety certificates, disability access certificates,commencement notices etc.
  • Have experience in conducting condition surveys and building regulationscompliance surveys of properties
  •  Have worked on commercial and residential developments from inception through to handover
  • Skilled knowledge of the Building Regulations i.e. Technical Guidance Documents AM
  • Proficient understanding of drainage design principals including implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems and the requirements of the Irish Water Codes of Practice for Water and Wastewater Infrastructure
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Project
  • Skilled knowledge of the various public procurement procedures and thresholds
  • Skilled knowledge of construction contracts such as the PWMF Forms of Contract and RIAI Forms of Contract.
