Longford Central Regional Water Supply Scheme Contract Signing
Longford County Council has signed a contract for the Longford Central Regional Water Supply Scheme, pipelines and reservoirs contract (contract no. 3). Irish Water to be state owned subsidiary of Bord Gais Eireann.
Irish Water is to be established as a new independent state owned subsidiary of Bord Gais Eireann. It was announced on the 17th April 2012 by the Irish Government that Irish Water will be established as a wholly owned public water utility and will remain in public ownership under the stewardship of Bord Gáis Eireann (BGE) group. Fire Station delivered to Monaghan County Council
This new landmark building is the result of five years planning, design, contract procurement and construction. The new Monaghan Fire Station is situated on the Annahagh Roundabout on the outskirts of Monaghan Town Centre and provides emergency fire cover to approximately 440 sq kilometres around North County Monaghan. Flood Relief Works at Gort Road, Ennis Complete
Extensive flooding took place in November 2009, of the Gort Road and the adjacent Industrial Park in Ennis, Co. Clare as a result of flood water overspill from Lough Girroga to the River Fergus. A flood relief scheme was designed by TOBIN Consulting Engineers to convey flood waters via large diameter pipework (twin 1,050mm and 1,200mm) across the Gort Road and through the Industrial Park to the River Fergus. TOBIN Completes EIS for Clifden Town Water Scheme
TOBIN has completed an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a major water supply project serving Clifden Town and the surrounding region. The preparation of the EIS involved consultation with key stakeholders such as National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), Inland Fisheries Ireland and others. A key output from the EIA process was the relocation of certain infrastructure elements away from sensitive ecological sites. The latest in a series of Construction Safety Courses for Professionals took place in the O'Callaghan Davenport Hotel, Dublin on 7th and 8th December 2011. Irish Planning Legislation for Quarries Amended
Commencement Orders for various planning regulations were signed on 15th November 2011 by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government. The change in legislation relates in particular to Section 261A which contains new provisions in relation to regulation of quarries. The implications of this legislative change is that some quarries which commenced operations after 1963 and which have not registered under the previous Section 261, may be facing closure by Local Authorities. TOBIN assist Teagasc's Agricultural Catchments Programme
Coran Kelly (TOBIN) and Robert Meehan (Independent Geologist) in collaboration with Teagasc have conducted high resolution groundwater vulnerability mapping in the Cregduff Catchment, Ballinrobe on behalf of Teagasc’s Agricultural Catchments Programme (ACP). An area of 47km2 was walked and included mapping karst features such as dolines and swallow holes, and dye-tracing. Contract signed for Flood Relief Scheme at Gort Road Business Park
Clare County Council has signed a contract for the Lough Girroga Flood Relief Scheme adjacent to the Gort Road Business Park, Ennis, Co. Clare. The scheme is designed to alleviate the flooding experienced in November 2009 due to the overflow of Lough Girroga during the severe weather crisis experienced at that time. TOBIN report on litter results in €1.5m in Government Funding
The Irish Government has provided local authorities with 1.5M euros in a bid to tackle graffiti and littering at key tourist locations as part of its anti-graffiti and tourist season anti-litter grant schemes. The funding is in response to the 2010 national litter pollution monitoring system report, which is prepared by TOBIN Consulting Engineers, provides statistical data about the extent, causes and composition of litter in Ireland. In April 2011 TOBIN Consulting Engineers were involved in the delivery of an innovative multi-agency response to a drinking water contamination incident at Carraroe, Co. Galway. TOBIN provided expert technical advice and project management services to Galway County Council in relation to a temporary GAC filtration system. Padraic Fogarty, Director, TOBIN consulting engineers, made a presentation at the Engineers Ireland Annual Conference 2011, in Galway. The presentation was part of the session on Engineering a Sustainable Future for the West Region. Padraic outlined how his work on a “Sustainable One TOBIN” dovetailed with his voluntary work with the Engineering the West team of Engineers Ireland. The Engineers Ireland Annual Conference 2011 took place in Galway from the 31st of March to the 1st of April. At the conference Padraic Fogarty, Director at TOBIN, gave a presentation entitled "Ireland West 2020 - A Bright Green Future." Loughrea Sewerage Scheme Phase 2 - Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Officially Opened
Mayor of Galway, Councillor Jimmy McClearn, officially opened the upgraded Wastewater Treatment Plant at Loughrea on Tuesday 15th February 2011. Presentation on New Galway Harbour
Following from the the public consultations on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st January 2011, John Kelly Director at TOBIN Consulting Engineers will give a presentation on the Galway Harbour development to an Engineers Ireland West organised event. Galway Port was built in the 1850’s and was reconfigured in the 1960’s. The port has some 560m of commercial berths, ranging from 2.75 to 3.4m depth. It also has a 26 berth marina. The port gates open for four hours per day, allowing access to vessels up to 7,000 tonnes. TOBIN oversees the successful completion of TESCO Oranmore
TOBIN recently oversaw the successfully completion of the new TESCO store at Oranmore, Galway. The new state of the art store opened on the 15th of November on schedule. The Pairc an Clochar development in Oranmore Village centre comprising a three-storey framed TESCO supermarket, building with retail and office accommodation, a single-storey basement car park with related vehicular access ramps stair/lift core and service area. Successful Commissioning of Barna Sewerage Scheme Completed
TOBIN Consulting Engineers recently oversaw the successful commissioning of the new Barna Sewerage Scheme. The purpose of the Barna Sewerage Scheme is to collect sewage from Barna village and connect it to the Galway City Main Drainage Scheme for treatment. Dunkellin Flood Study - Public and Stakeholder Information Evening

Work commences on Bishop O'Donnell Road Scheme
Following a competitive tendering process the contract for the Bishop O’Donnell/Seamus Quirke Road Improvements was awarded to Coffey Construction Ltd,. GAA President turns sod on new Connacht €10m Centre of Excellence
Connacht GAA was in celebratory mood when Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Criostóir Ó Cuana turned the sod on the province’s new €10m Centre of Excellence. “This is a hugely significant day in the history of the GAA in Connacht. TOBIN Consulting Engineers has recently been appointed to perform sound level and noise compliance monitoring for a major outdoor concert at Marlay Park, Dublin. BER to be manditory for Home Energy Saving (HES) Scheme Grants
From 8th June 2010, Building Energy Rating (BER) will be an integral part of all grant applications under the Home Energy Saving (HES) scheme, whereby homeowners must undertake a BER on their home after grant aided works have been completed in order for grant aid to be released.
